I began with Chemistry. The work kept getting larger.
Since 2002, my responsibility has moved from one classroom, to whole schools, to a learning platform reaching students across 70+ countries.
Teaching
I studied computer science before teaching became the centre of my working life.
I began teaching Chemistry in 2002. Since then, I have worked with thousands of students across Cambridge International, OxfordAQA and Pearson Edexcel, from O Level and International GCSE through AS and A Level.
Chemistry makes exactness unavoidable. A student can remember the right topic and still choose the wrong idea. They can use familiar language and still miss the distinction the question requires. Good teaching makes those errors visible enough to repair.
Schools
I have built or run three schools.
I was a member of the founding team at Nixor College. I later founded Cedar College, where I served as CEO and dean. I am a co-founder and board member of The Ivy School.
The responsibility changes when the unit is no longer one class. A school has to coordinate teaching, assessment, schedules, teacher support, parent communication, student care, and the routines that make good work possible on ordinary days.
Reports, attendance, marks, and completed plans all matter. Each one still tells only part of the story. A well-run school can measure activity more easily than it can explain why a student is struggling.
Alt Academy
I founded Alt Academy to make strong subject teaching available beyond one classroom, school, or city.
The platform gives learners access to structured teaching, practice, feedback, and exam preparation. It has reached tens of thousands of free learners across 70+ countries.
That proves reach. It does not allow me to treat every view, completed lesson, or recorded mark as proof that learning changed. Building at scale makes the need for honest evidence more important, not less.
What I am working on now
My current work sits where teaching, school design, and technology meet.
I am interested in how students become less dependent on constant instruction, how assessment can improve the next decision, and how education can prepare young people for a world changing faster than most school timetables.
This site is where I develop those arguments in public. It is separate from Alt Academy’s corporate website and from the admissions websites of the schools I have worked with.
